Christmas is over and I'm cracking down. I have about a month in which to write my Ph.D. thesis now. Shouldn't be too hard, right? eeek

Hopefully I'll be around here a little more often than I've been for the last month.

My sister bought me a print of this for Christmas:

It's by a photographer named Neil Williams. I met him at an the Portobello Road market in London in August 2003. Not only is he really talented, but he's a nice, genuine guy. I think you should all buy pictures from him, or at least check out his calendar which has some lovely photos in it.

Hope Santa was good to everybody this year.

New Burma album being OnOffOn? It's okay - it seems like Clint Connely's still writing good stuff, but the Roger Miller stuff isn't quite as "on" and the best songs on it are over 20 years old. I'm glad to see that they're still writing though - they just came out with an EP which I haven't heard, and it looks like they'll be doing another full length, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

As for arm's length shots - been doing it for yeaaaars. The key is knowing how the camera's focusing system works, getting used to intuiting what the camera "sees" at a particular focal length, etc. It isn't easy though, certainly. I have this awesome photo I need to scan in sometime that I took on a roller coaster where I've got me in the front of the roller coast, and my immediate family behind me, all perfectly framed - sometimes a heavy dose of good luck helps too. Oh, and shoot 10 photos to increase your chances of getting a good one. wink
