A couple of weeks ago, my friend found an injured bird in the park. She called me, because I'm the guy who likes birds. As it turned out, it was a young yellow-bellied sapsucker (a member of the woodpecker family). It seemed to be able to fly okay, but was unable to use its legs. I took it to the Willowbrook Wildlife Haven to see if they could help.

I just recieved a reply from them. They informed me that the bird had sustained some spinal injury and couldn't move its legs. As it was not expected to recover, they euthanized it.

If I was eight, I would say that I learned a very valuable lesson about life and death. Something along the lines of accepting that you can't always change things, no matter how hard you try.

As it stands, I am twenty-eight and it just kind of sucks.

Agreed. Bedroom sweat (or closet sweat, or stairwell sweat, or on top of your desk in your office sweat.... oh, sorry) is far from gross. But schlepping around the French Quarter in New Orleans drenched is most definately disgusting.
