Last night I went to Wembley Arena to see Black Sabbath live... yep, that's right- BLACK FUCKING SABBATH!!! This was pretty much a lifelong dream coming true (well for the last ten years at least). Black Sabbath truly is the best band in the world, period! Like Rob Zombie said in the documentary "Metal: A Headbangers Journey" "Black Sabbath has already done everything, everything that is being played nowadays is just playing Black Sabbath's music only slower, faster, backwards or whatever" (not the exact quote but something along that linesmile). Their album "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" is the second best album of all times (right behind "Ziggy Stardust" of course) and it contains THE best metal riff ever, the super heavy riff of the title track. Everyone should know which one I'm talking aboutwink, to imagine that this was written more than 30 years ago is pretty hard.

To get back to the subject (the actual show): The opening acts were pretty bad. Sorry if anyone like Iced Earth but they were completely boring they didn't play anything out of the ordinary it felt like it could have been any power metal band in the world, little bit heavier than some of them though. Well, not my "cup of tea" anywayssmile (love that expression, haha!)

The second opening act was as bad as the first one. I don't understand this "New wave of american metal", it's not fun at all. It feels so predictable with the moshy riffs and all... anyways, Lamb Of Iommi was the band that had the honours of opening for the Heavy metal Gods. One question, what is the reason for a band like LOG to open for Black Sabbath? That LOG will gain "older" heavy metal fans or that "younger" fans that (for some reason which I can't figure out) likes LOG but haven't heard Black Sabbath will start to buy their records?

Finally it was time for Black Sabbath to enter the stage! For those of you who don't know this was the "Heaven And Hell" version of Black Sabbath with Vinny Appice and Dio playing instead of Ozzy and Ward. The band enter the stage, the crowd goes wild, they start to play "Mob Rules" and from that moment and about one and a half hour on I'm having one of the greatest concert experiences of my life! They play all the great songs from the Dio-years. "Children Of The Sea", "Die Young" "The Sign Of The Southern Cross" etc. the two songs they play from the record "Dehumanizer", "After All" and "Computer God" are pretty awesome to hear live, the LOG kids thought their band played heavy riffs but that is nothing compared to this. Then, just over an hour in to the show Dio calls out the words:
"The world is full of Kings and Queens
Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams
It's Heaven and Hell"
I get goose bumps just thinking about it. When the crowd is singing THE riff I'm just in a different place, that is definitely the best song I've ever heard performed live!

There's only two shows that has the potential on being better than this one ever, if I ever get the chance to see David Bowie or the original four members of Black Sabbath. After seeing Ozzy live this summer I'm not sure he can pull the songs of though, his performance was far from flawless to say the least. This makes Dio's performance even more impressive, he can really sing still! I would love to hear songs of the five first Sabbath albums live though since they are the biggest masterpieces in metal music.

Jensus_christ and myself waiting impatiently for the show to begin.

Butler, Appice, Iommi.

The best bass player in the world!

Dio and Appice

Not Mozart nor Bach nor Lennon, the biggest musical genius of all time is this man, Tony Iommi!!

Here's a video I recorded with my digital camera, it's two minutes of the song "Heaven And Hell". Not the best sound but still pretty coolsmile

I sure wouldn't mind a secret reunion gig or a Poisonblack gig or any other good concert wink

But in general I'm there to study of course wink

Actually I've spent quite a bit of time in Sweden already. Back when I was living with my parents it was (and still is) their favorite country for vacations. Spent many summers in the Karlstad area and lots of other places biggrin
