I just ate waaaaaaayyyy too much Indian food. We found a cheap buffet that gave us draft beer for two bucks because we were already making pigs of ourselves for practically nothing and it was DE-LISH-OUSSSSS. That's right, five 's's for extra flavor.

Friday was an awesome day. I had to get my chest x-rayed for my visa to Australia and the hospital I picked was way up north in the traditional part of Seoul that has a big art market and all sorts of palaces and shit. Totally cool area. So I went up there after having cheesecake for breakfast with my friend Chris (head/cream girl) because sometimes you just need to do stuff like that.

When I arrived at Insadong, I was a little early so I just sat back on the main drag and drew people as they walked by. Down the way a bit was a couple of what I can only describe as Korean hippies. The woman was painting on A4 paper with traditional inkbrush and the man was sprawled on the ground with bare feet, a topknot with a rose in it, and ink all up and down his left leg. Clearly these were my kind of people. I turned a bit and began drawing the woman while she was painting. A short while later she wanders over to me and has one of her paintings in her hand. I didn't have any cash and didn't want to be rude so I just kind of smiled at her. She gives me a huge grin right back and says, "No money, just talking," so I invited her to sit down next to me and showed her what I was doing. She got very excited because, as it turns out, she had been painting me drawing her and had come over to give it to me as a gift.

I loved it and we chatted for a bit before she invited me over to see her other work. She ended up giving me another painting and asked me if I'd like to try. Of course I said I did and sat down to return her generosity. We attracted a pretty sizable crowd until it was time for me to go get my x-ray taken. We said our farewells and off I went.

The weather outside was amazing, BTW, and the whole time I was at the hospital I was beaming. It didn't take very long, so I still had some time after before I had to be back in my area for the Cream beer night. I sat down and started drawing again. This time I attracted a Buddhist monk who sat down quietly and just watched me for a long time. After I finished, he asked my name and where I was from and explained he was a Buddhist. I showed him the tattoo on my forearm of the Om and his face lit up and he started chattering like a kindergartner with a new toy, telling me all about his life and his family and why he chose to be a monk. It was a really awesome time.

It started to cloud up a bit and sprinkle so I packed up my stuff and wandered into the subway listening to Sea Wolf. Seriously, if you haven't picked him up yet, do so now. It's some amazing music. On my way in I was interviewed by some Korean girls for their university newspaper. I got my picture taken and everything.

All in all, a pretty perfect day.

Also this, which I appreciated:

It was just randomly tucked up into the side of a building. Seemed apropo for the day. biggrin
