(A little bit more. I started this yesterday.)
The space cops (and they're not really space cops, meaning they're not really from outer space, but they are from Out There, you dig?) give chase, with short steps, with knees high, in perfect unison. "HUT-HUT-HUT," they say, "HUT-HUT." They don't move very fast but they can keep up with the boy anyway.
The girl, she with the dreadlocks that are bright and bright red, and the boots that are thick and loud, points, and tries to talk, tries to ask, but she's not sure what to say, or to whom to direct her question. The other people on the street, all young, all alternative, all fashionable and hip, say things like, "Whoa," and "Hey there--whoa."
The boy runs down the sidewalk, looks over his shoulder and laughs, and leap-frogs over the back of the kid from the comic shop, the one who maybe sees the girl around from time to time, and maybe recognizes her as someone who shops for Slave Labor comics at the comic shop, or maybe as just that girl he sees around from time to time, but who pretends like he's too busy-slash-cool to notice that he remembers her. The boy from space leap-frogs over the kid's back and the kid drops his cup, his cup of something, his cup of fruity-something, the cup that hits the pavement with the lid popped off and becomes ruined. The space boy laughs and jumps (and springs!) onto the wall of the Thai place the girl sometimes wishes she visited. She sometimes wishes she would eat there, but whenever she's hungry and she thinks about the Thai place she remembers there's a Burger King near her apartment, and the Burger King serves Veggie Whoppers that she's sure will be tasty and filling (whereas food at the Thai place is only maybe-tasty and maybe-filling), and the Burger King also has chicken sandwiches that the girl will eat if a) there's no one she knows at the Burger King when she walks in, and b) she hasn't had a chicken sandwich in a really long time, like at least a week and a half.
Anyway. The space boy jumps onto the wall of the Thai place, over the awning and onto the brick, clinging with his fingers and his toes and his who-knows-how, but the girl sees and she thinks to herself, "That fucker has a nice ass," and also, "No wonder he doesn't wear shoes."
