Difficult as it may be to do it, it's the right thing to do - since it will bring closure to that chapter of your life and allow you to replace it with something better.

You deserve something pretty, and I totally know how you feel. It's hard to get rid of items with so much emotional symbolism behind them. Stiffen your backbone and have at it, once done it's like a giant weight is lifted. I don't think you should buy something specific with the money though, as it's a good chance that will become the new symbol.
