I found an old interview I did for Loser Magazine. Enjoy!:
Here is an interview originally recorded in July of '99 for Loser Unanimous. It is being printed here for the first time as Ben Norwood recently won another Loser of the Yesr this past Monday.
LM: Congradualtions Ben, on an unprecendented 12 straight Loser of the Year award.
Ben: Thank you, Jeff. It's quite an honor.
LM:Now I understand you had pretty stiff compition this year.
Ben: I did, no doubt about it. There was Courntey Love, Rosanne, Robert Downey Jr., Charlie Sheen, several Magic Card players all of the world. (sighs) Yeah it was tough but uh (clears throat) I just stuck with the basic formula, plus I turned down sex of couple of times, once to the former Prom Queen while she was drunk and thought I was someone else.
LM:Wow! That's quite impressive. I haven't heard about that one. And you quit school and work at a video store, correct.
Ben:Yes. That is correct.
LM: Do you think that's what help push you over in first place, so to speak, in the judges' eyes?
Ben:It didn't hurt! (laughs).
LM:Now there are some that say it's not even fair anymore. That you just do the same ol' thing and you that have set the bar so high that it's hard for anyone else to be Loser of the Year.
Ben:Well, I just do what I do. I mean I've worked very hard to get where I am. I done and not done things. It does take work and practice. For some it's easy and comes natural and for some it's a personal choice. They are not to be critized either way. It's not like I'm going to be less of a loser overnight just so others can have a shot.
LM:Well spoken. You said just now that for some it comes easily and for some it's work. Being a 12 times champion, where do you think it comes from.
Ben:Well work and yeah, a lot of my loser nature does come naturally. I thank my parents. Good breeding you know. Plus they kept me sheltered from a lot of things and made me realize how much Jesus loves me and how television has no part in an early adolesence's life. In fact, I didn't even know I was a loser until my early teens.
LM:So were a later bloomer?
Ben:Yes, very much so. Although I think it was in me the whole time.
