So today I was told about a charity idea of filling a shoe box of gifts, like toys, stationary, toothbrush, basic clothing etc to send overseas to needy children.
I thought it was an awesome idea and bought lots of things to make boxes for 2 boys and a girl (mainly cos boys have cooler stuff that is smaller to fit in a shoe box).

So here is my problem... I read the pamphlet and it sounded all good till I read the steps:
1. Shoe Box
2. Boy or girl
3. Fill with gifts
4. Pray for the child the gift is for.

Now I have no problem with people who want to be religious (I should of guessed it was, cos my work friend is into church stuff) but it is against my religion of no religion and makes me feel bad cos I kind of don't want to support church groups cos they get enough money.

I still want to do it, but I am going to search online for a non-christian shoebox gift giving group that I don't feel as dirty helping.

Am I crazy for not wanting to support a church group? I probably am, but meh, I dont like the idea of churchies pushing stuff down the throats of less educated and fortunate people. but i guess they do a good job.

off to google i go

you can do it without worrying about the christian stuff. Try people like uniting church or anglican christian groups - they tend to be a lot less full on than catholic, protestant, spiritualist, new age etc.

If you don't like praying, just think of good thoughts and well wishes for the kids and it acts as night thought patterns rather than praying.

If not I know some old web developers I used to work with overseas in the phillipines and india that would know some underprivledged kids, if you want I can hit them up and maybe get some direct addresses and names so you know exactly who they are going to!

awesome idea though!!!
