Perhaps I should clarify that the protective fortune in question was not my own, I was just musing. While it is common knowledge that my guardian angel gets hazard pay, I found out yesterday in one of those "Oh, I thought you knew..." sort of ways that an old family friend of ours, a now retired firefighter, not only survived the WTC collapse without dying, he managed to break his back without being paralyzed. This is on top of another friend who was literally carried out of the second tower, unconscious, by an anonymous stranger.
