Anyone knows that working sometimes sucks. It wouldn't be called 'work' if it was fun all the time (or at least this is the philosophy I have). I mainly dislike my job for the amount of hours I have to put in and the unending travel I am forced to endure. Not to be egotistical, but I know that if I left the company (which is very small) they would suffer and have a hard time replacing me.
So I made a plan, an escape plan you might say. I was going to be generous and offer them about 1 to 2 months notice on my intent to leave, having my sights set on returning to college and obtaining another degree. As I am walking out the door, my boss calls me into his office. I enter into a meeting in progress, with the main 3 decision makers for the company. All eyes fall on me as they begin to lay out details for expanding our business. Then the big question is asked: Would I be able to take the responsibility in leading our new section? I received looks of "please say yes" while being given appreciation for my current work efforts and intelligence (I'm not the sharpest tack in the box, but I'll say I'm far from being the dullest). My answer was one of ambiguity; I said "Give me a time table of when this will occur and I will help you out." Now the big question is whether I can still make the break from this job since I kind of committed to this new position. I would not be able to return to school until next fall (yes, 2006) but I still wasn't planning on devoting another year at my present position.
I'll make to make an increase in salary demand to quell my desires to leave. But does this make me a sell-out if I take the money to stay somewhere that makes me miserable? I can say that the new position will reduce my travel time, but I am feeling an overall burnout for my field of work... Blah, blah blah!!!
Some days I want to bounce my head off the wall to see it will help alleviate the feelings of melancholy
Have any of you ever 'sold-out' to get a pay increase?

OK, enought about me... how did the weekend treat you all?? I hope well. I went out and enjoyed the nights sipping on some Hardcore Apple Cider. Good stuff if you haven't tried it. Please, don't come promoting any Hornsby crap to me. That stuff holds no chance against Ace, Woodchuck, or Hardcore ciders. Try either and see for yourself. And if you're not partial to apples, they have a pear cider. Any of them are good.
Cheers!
