Midnight has come and gone, the calendar increments advance by one. New Year is always a period of reflection, of resolutions and promises, dreams and aspirations. This time is no different. In the spirit of tradition, I have come up with a few things I would like to accomplish in this coming year.

1) find a cause to support
I see and hear people talk about putting time into a cause, but I've never really dedicated myself to one. I give money to charities, but my involvement stops there. I'd like to find something that I could do physically to help more.

2) simplify
For starters, there are things in my apartment which have traveled with me through several moves and I really have no practical need for them. Momentos are great, but after a while, they have to go. I have the memories in my head, so that's what is important. And clothing... I don't have a lot to begin with, but there are items I haven't worn in 3 or 4 years. someone else could use them.

3) continue living healthy
I got into a workout routene last year for about 6 months. Then work got hectic and I found myself saying "I'm too tired to work out" a lot. so I need to restart the fitness. also, I don't eat as well as I could. Traveling constantly has made me a gas station connoisseur; I can tell you where the best place for catfish or chicken-on-a-stick. however, i know I'm slowly dying inside by not getting fresh fruits and veggies in my belly.

4) be more open to relationships
ok, this one is a bit of a touchy subject, but I am tired of being single. It's not that I'm overly high in my standards for women, but that I am overly shy and introverted. I see women I'd like to approach, but let my insecurities get in the way. so I'm making an effort to correct this. for starters, I've reassured myself that the word "no" will not kill me.

5) read more
self explanitory

6) take up a new hobby
ditto

7) look for a new job/go back to school
just about everyone hates their job. no news flash there. so either I change jobs or go back for a masters. or go back for a completely different degree. this will take some thought. I am hesitant to live in school-induced poverty, but if the short-term suffering will cause greater happiness and enable me further in the future, then I should persue this goal. and I've made some good progress in my job, but I think I'm overdue for a raise. however, the money would not make me like the job any more in time.

That's all I have for now. May this new year bring prosperity for you all.
