Weekend update:
Ok, had a little trip to Dallas this weekend. I found out two things: 1) $200 doesn't go as far as it use to, and 2) I am horribly out of shape.
This is a trip I needed to make but hated to because of the current gas prices. The purpose was to fence in a benifit tournament, with all the proceeds going to a hurricane relief fund. I wanted to continue to help, and it also gave me an opportunity to see just where I am and how much I have to improve early in the season.
I have a big margin for improvement...
Out of 10 people I ended up 5th. All things considered, I guess it's not too bad. Here's what I have going against me: there is no club here in Little Rock. I am basically by myself so I never get to practice with anyone except when I go to tournaments and then its not practice, it counts. Also I travel all the freakin' time, so I never work out. Just like the Karate Kid stood out on the beach and did his moves, so could I be doing the same thing (just not on the beach). But I don't because I am a lazy bastard, which I can change and soon will. But I do have the following things in my favor: years of experience. I've been fencing for 11 years now. And if you have good core basics, the rest is just timing. Plus a little natural appitude helps. I know these things will not make me better, only keep me mediocre of the time. So I must restart my training. Only a month before my next match.
my legs are already hating me....
