i wonder if he say this one coming...
those of you who are not familiar with mayr's theory of emergence are likely to not understand this bitingly clever and breathlessly funny line. this is truly a shame. it is for you, then, that i include the following quote:
"new properties emerge at each higher level of organization that could not have been predicted from a knowledge of the lower-level components."

to somelameo, this concept should actually be of interest. however, he is too lazy to read this journal and too stubborn to realize that this might have something to do with his thesis. i must now retire to more histology for the night.
