why do i hate the yankees? its not because they are rich, i can deal with that. its the fact that they are exactly what sports is supposed to make one want to overcome. sport is a mock battle in which you have to believe that there is something innate in the human spirit that cannot prepared for. everything the yankees do is to counter that; they prepare for everything they can and do it well. beating a team like that gives people an outlet to push their own limits, without having to, you know, die in real battle.

i think that your theory hinges on this idea that there's something more to sports than just skill, so like, the ultimate robot isn't gonna be the best player, but rather, the human with grit and spirit and all that crap is going to somehow pull a miracle out of his/her ass and win. especially in the case of a team.
I nearly died of happiness last night after nearly dying of stress for the last 3 innings. Because at the bottom of the 9th, with the Red Sox ahead by more than a few runs, I've seen them lose. Probably a few times although one stands clearly out in my mind. You never, ever, fucking know what's gonna happen. And that's why robots will never understand it.
