remusisdying

i got into a discussion with an applicant today about philly. this applicant was originally from philly, and was curious to know what i thought of the city after spending four years there as a student. now, my immediate reaction was to say i liked college but hated philly. but then, i felt like maybe i was too hard on the city, and that i didnt like it because i was just studying too much and mad at the world. perhaps she sensed this, and got me to grudgingly acknowledge that the city gets a bad rap. then i sat and thought for a minute and realize that while i feel i am aware of the possibility of me being unfare in my judgement, i stand by my original thought: i just dont like philly. its a dying city that is only fashionable with the new indie crowd because it is a dead city that they feel they can embrace as their own. this is even more so for those that feel loving a generally rejected city makes them somehow more intuitive and knowing.
