i think i would maybe own an apartment in nyc, but never settle there. for retirement i definitely want to be on an island in the south pacific, or perhaps one of those there islands that make up hawaii. either that or in some mountains that are very near the ocean. theres something about living out my days in a place to which people go for the surrounding environment. but on the side, sure, theres nothing to stop me from buying an escalade, then converting it into a convertible, and cruising in manhattan. that, and man do i want to take out a pigeon or two; sweet awesomeness.

i am discovering that i really like the look of wet ivy.

yeah, ivy is one of those things that is really much cooler in the rain, i think. it's also cool when, on a sunny day, you happen upon an old stone building, and it's sunny, but standing by the building it is just cool enough that you start thinking about perhaps putting a sweater on, and you look up at the ivy climbing over the building - that's neat.
actually, downtown portland has some really awesome ivy type things growing on some newer looking buildings, which i really love. it's rare to see more contemporary architecture with ivy on it; it's neat.
i could keep talking about ivy, but maybe i should work on my thesis instead. although i'm sure your life has improved significantly now that you know my thoughts on the matter. heh heh.
