Although death is around every corner (especially in one of my favourite films by Bergman, the Seventh Seal was it?,)
life goes on...

And the joys of life can transcend the miseries; although at times some of these might seem trivial and empty, when one has passed in to the next life (if there actually is one,)
we find the occasion to celebrate in honour...

My Grandma died last weekend, and I attended her services just the other day. It was sad to see her go, she was a strong woman and loved by all, with never a bad word to say to anyone. It was amazing how positive her outlook on life was; despite growing up in poverty and in conditions that would be deemed substandard in todays era...

I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandma. My deepest condolences. frown

You already know what I think of 'The Sound of Night' and if find your Grandmother's poem to be very beautiful too. They go together very well, as the sense of easy optimism is prominent throughout both poems. It's a lovely memorial.

I hope you are bearing up at this sad time.

-20 degrees F this morning after a blizzard dumped over 1 foot of snow... wow... skull
iseult:
A foot of snow? eeek Jesus Christ! If we get a couple of inches over here, everything grinds to a standstill. I think we could learn a thing or two from you guys.

My family lives in Co. Clare on the West coast of Ireland (where they used to film Father Ted) and it is beautiful in a rugged, slightly bleak sort of way. You can see the Atlantic ocean from my Nana's house.

Because it is so beautiful, many tourists and Irish city people have bought holiday houses, which has caused the price of land and property to soar. it's getting to the stage where people can not afford to live in the villages in which they were born and raised. The land-developers really are ruthless. mad

I hope your friends enjoy living there. The pace of life is much slower in the rural West, so it's generally a great place to get some peace. smile

A good friend of mine is visiting from East Timor. You may not be aware of the genocide that this country endured recently, or that they have been awarded sovereignty and freedom from the oppressive Indonesian government. He has married a Timorese woman and is starting a family, as well as perating a film, music and theater studio, all sponsored by grants from their government....

Thank you so much for the compliment! blush kiss I am a big fan of your poetry too.

I've never been in love, so I've never been so attached to a relationship that its demise has been painful to me. Actually that's not true; when Lily's dad and I broke up, it was horrendous, but that was because I thought I had failed Lily somehow, rather than anything to do with her father. Despite this, I don't find it easy or pleasant to end a relationship: I think people who enjoy it must have some negative issues of their own.

You know, in their moderate forms, Catholicism and Islam are more similar than most people imagine. We share a lot of the same ideology and doctrines. Of course there are some fundamental differences in our beliefs, but it's nice to see a harmonious fusion of the religious cultures, if not the religions themselves can exist in some families.

Im changing my profile pic and alias as i grew tired of being a psyborg and also to reflect this classic tale of mythology, of which I am particularly interested...

In the Finnish Kalevala, Kullervo was the ill-fated son of Kalervo. He is the only irredeemably tragic character in Finnish mythology.

His father dies in a clash with his own brother Untamo, who sells Kullervo...

Happy NY to all... hopefully the new year will exceed your expectations. We had an awfully fun dance party on NYE, and feast fit for royalty. Onto the following morning, on the subject of NY resolutions, some resolved to make more homemade pizzas, which was on of the best ideas I heard all night. Another reveler decided to dance more, a truly noble pursuit if...
