Well, It's been almost a month since I last posted and I'm sorry that I've been so sporadic. I just need to get this out of my system.

Around March my brother was diagnosed with cancer. There was a small lump about the size of a golf ball next to his esophagus, right near the joining with the trachea. It had bored a hole through the two and whenever he swallowed, he would cough it up, as it would travel down his trachea into his lungs.

They put a stint in to prevent the food from entering his esophagus and everything was fine for a while. They were doing Chemotherapy to try and reduce the swelling of the tumor. Unfortunately, he lost all of his hair and wear a baseball cap to hide it.

As of late, more lumps have shown up and he has lost alot of weight. My dad has talked to the doctor who is in charge of his case and the outcome doesn't look good. If the tumors don't show any reaction to the Chemo, he will have about another two months to live.

They are giving him a new medication that was recently approved by the FDA, but it only works on patients who don't smoke, so they don't know if it will work. Cigarettes were the cause of his cancer and his reasoning is that if he's gonna die, he might as well enjoy what he has left. This defeatist attitude isn't helping him any and I'm frustrated at him for it. But I suppose it's his choice.

All the while dad is telling me this while he puffs on a cigarette. I can almost see the skulls forming in the air when the smoke billows out of his mouth and curls along the surface of his nightstand. I had to quit smoking because it made my asthma worse. It was tough after 5 years of smoking to up and quit, but I did it. I only wish it were that easy for Dad and Steve.
