There is a guy who lives in Sydney who I am fascinated to find out more about...he is one of the ' bag men'...he first came to my notice on Bondi Road where he stood to attention all day and night , hands crossed as though praying over a collection of dirty plastic shopping bags which seem to contain only more dirty shopping bags....he looks like Christ ..slender , dark haired and good looking with a long black beard , with deathly white greyish skin.He stood outside this Thai restaurant for more than a year and then disappeared for a while ..now I have found him again on the way down to Bondi Beach through the back way into Lamrock Avenue.. he is on a bus stop seat with his belongings in a nylon sack tucked neatly behind the shelter with an old grubby blanket neatly folded on top . he stands there as if he is a statue , slowly gazing at the passing cars who gaze back in wonder at who and what this poor creature is all about.I am desperate to find out his story ... he seems strangely happy as if he is in a state of constant Meditation...I think he may believe he is Christ ... I am determined this year to find out and maybe do a little doco or something about him...It worries me that he could be attacked as he sleeps at night in the lonliness of the streets , by passing hoodlums , although he has a ' high ' presence that may act as a kind of deterrent....Im sure the Thai owners of the past domicile are pleased to see him go as they couldnt have done much business with him always standing in the doorway. although being Thais they probably saw him as some Monk or spiritual traveller who had blessed them with his presence..I'm sure he must be ' on the nose'...unless he is in to early morning swims at Bondi Beach..which I doubt...Sydney has a lot of ' street people' like any large city I suppose , only here most are on the streets because the fucked up Government closed all the Mental institutions and threw them all out on the Mercy of the world... most were schizophrenics and Manic depressives who could.nt keep self medication together and coupled with Methylated Spirits and cheap booze just got more and more insane....its a hard world for some.
