I had a major realization this past week:
I want more female friends.
I need more female friends.
Somehow over the past two years I've built up this gaggle of gay males friends, but very few female friends. Not only have I been labeled a "Fag Hag" by masochonistic-assholes, but I've been seriously missing out by having more women in my life.
I realized that for all the gay men I know (from friends to acqaintainces) they do a whole lot of talking about Gay Rights and discrimination and such ... BUT in the same breath will say "There are too many Dikes in this bar" or "Why do they let so many Lesbians in here?" or "That girl is such a pathetic Fag Hag."
It's the same sexist bullshit women have suffered under straight men for thousands of years, BUT because it comes from effeminate men we think its harmless or funny or somehow not wrong. It is wrong, and harmfull, and dividing.
Just as women in straight society have been defined by men, so are women, lesbian or not, in gay society by the very men who claim to understand discrimination and embrace diversity.
Fuck them and their hypocrocies.
Beyond my anger over this, however, I'm looking foward to making all my new girlfriends. Anybody want to go for coffee?
