Just found out that a very talented friend (an artist, who happens to be my tattoo artist) is now seriously strung out.

I am so, so very sick of seeing this happen to people. And at the same time, I am so fucking frustrated... again...
tygerblade:
Yes, I got that same advice too. Always do what you love for a living. And as soon as I figure that out, I'll give it a shot...

William Shatner has won an award... for acting...

Get the guns, people. The End is High.

Shatner....[insert awkward hand gesture]...gets an....award....[head twitches to the left]...my...God....

College improved my writing skills, but killed my writing. My grades and therefore my future came to depend on being creative on a deadline. Pressure. Stress. I often couldn't write the entire time the assignment was due till the night before, and then stayed up for the next 24 hours, even skipping all other classes, just to produce something wholesale out of nothing and clean it up in enough time to turn it in. And I had to keep setting my sights higher and higher to outperform my fellow students, till anything I wrote that fell short of Shakespeare became trash. By my senior year I was burnt out on writing altogether, and never fully recovered. And the sad thing is, nearly the only time I can write now is if there is some sort of deadline involved...

I love how cunning she was as she placed the testicle in her mouth.. haha it's almost cute that she was that naive and gross to do something like that. It reminds me of when kids put the nastiest stuff in their mouths.. eek, anyhow.

I'm very very very blissful and I hope you are too

You know, I admit that I probably spend too much time playing computer and console games. But recently, several friends have gotten into World of Warcraft, and they are actually freaking me out - I'm talking missing meals, not bathing, calling in sick to work. I haven't seen anything like this since Everquest!

In other news, there is an interesting article on SF Gate...

Well, fuck. Rainy, cold, my friend from L.A. is AWOL, and Raina has a sore leg from her recent tattoo. I'm sensing a less than stellar New Year's Eve... frown
Hope yours is better!

While I was in Whole Foods the other day, Lars Ulrich's kid tried to take the milk from their basket and put it into mine, "for Thanksgiving!" I already had milk, I explained, but the gesture was nice.

Say what you will about Ulrich, but he's raising some nice little kids.

So the girlfriend had surgery on the 2nd, to remove two 12" metal rods from her spine (part of a vertebral fusion she had to have due to scoliosis, but the rods are no longer necessary.) The surgery was actually okay no complications, and removing the metal has greatly reduced her back pain. Then comes the fun part she picked up a respiratory infection while...

For some reason, my mailbox has been flooded of late with wedding invitaitons and baby announcements.

I am suddenly reminded of the Larry Miller bit:

"My friends are having kids? They're parents. I know these people - they're idiots!"
(Larry is standing over the crib of his friend's newborn child.)
"Hello there. You know, I used to hold your father's head while he threw up....

Was pretty much how I felt when my girlfriend got pregnant.
(That's a long time ago...) Sadly, nowadays I have to hold my own head when I throw up.
Uhmm... What -colour- green stuff?

Regarding various forms of undead:

Finally saw Shaun of the Dead. Damn funny movie, even if you aren't British.

On the other end of the spectrum, also saw The Order on DVD. Blech. A shaggy, muddled mess, filled with obtuse dialogue and unresolved - or simply extraneous - plot twists. The sad part is, there was a nifty little origin story buried in there, if...

the dylan mustasche freaks me the hell out.
alienprincess:
yeah, I saw the dylan thing in newsweek. I can't remember what vincent Price looks like.

on the linux front, I'd say definately give it a try. It can't hurt if you have a way to download the disks and burn them (broadband helps.) Definately better than paying for windows.

I have it on the pc I built! I have Suse on there now, but I think if I can suceed in putting gentoo (http://www.gentoo.org) on my ibook, I'll put it on the pc as well. I'mn very impressed with their portage system, a way of organizing your stuff on the 'portage tree' so it makes it very easy to update your system over the net. However it's the hardest distribution I've ever done.

gentoo is the most difficult linux to install. However, it is teaching me more about how linux works than any other install I've done.

most distributions make it very easy to install their stuff.

the Suse, Redhat (now perhaps called Fedora Core) and mandrake distributions (mandrake being the easiest) are super easy to install. You have to know certain stuff about your hardware like your monitor horizontal and vertical sync rate (often your monitor is on a list you can choose from in the process otherwise you might need to look up the info on the net.
definately check the hardware compatability lists online before you commit to installing.

anyway.... I'm a big linux geek, so of course I think you should try it!!!
