Okay, so I've been a little scarce. It's work. You know, the standard - shifting deadlines, huge pressure, and to make things more interesting Mr. Bond, let's have one co-worker leave for a new life in London, and another get called for jury duty!

So I'm pretty much collapsing into bed every night.

Thanks for commenting on me & Saint's rejected set (A late "thank-you", but a "thank-you" nonetheless! wink )
I'm glad you enjoyed it.

The SG Winter Ball a-cometh.

See some of you there.

Have fun!!!! I really wanted to go, but this seems to not be the right time for us to get away for a night. Instead I'll be watching Nanny McPhee with a couple of giggly girls and thinking about you all having a stylish party in the city! biggrin
charlielove:
stop by here first! i'm having some folks over!

You know, I really had hopes that we would get some political unity in the United States, for once.

I don't know why I remain so naive. It's a disease.

Work deadlines are approaching like the first wave of TIE fighters in the Battle of Endor, and I am sick as a dog. Need drugs now, but I don't want to go out.

I have always loved the phrase "I cannot afford to get sick." The higher somebody is in the company hierarchy, the more often they use it. It's sort of the white collar...

Random fill-in-the-blanks update:

Didn't really go out for New Years, as it happened I had someone tied up. Apologies if I missed raucous holiday parties.

In other news, I'm volunteering for Barack Obama. I try not to wear my politics on my sleeve, but it's going to be taking up some significant time in the near future, so I figured I should mention it.

joker_:
Happy New Year.
Someone tied up is a great excuse. I seem to use it often these days.
obd:
It sounds like you had good reason to stay in.

Happy/Merry/Woeful [insert the name of whatever winter holiday your particular denomination, belief system, or rational humanist doctrine might be, here].

I shall, for the first time, be staying in the Bay Area for the holidays, and will be cooking a large vegetarian Christmas meal (thank God for Quorn turkey loaf.)

Today, it's shopping, shopping, shopping. Yeah, I know, I should have done it sooner. But...

Well, I fully intended to see everybody last night, but there was this really top shelf absinthe at the first party.... say no more. No really, say no more. I've got lawyers.

Now I'm off to the hinterlands to celebrate my spawning day. I briefly considered a big party, but with all the holiday events already going on, it seems better to keep it simple....

dude...happy belated birthday. I am a chump for not posting yesterday. I am about to bring a bottle of absinthe to a friend's holiday party this afternoon. I am actually hoping that they do not open it right away, so I might escape unscathed.

I'm not saying this to brag, but I' think I'm a fairly accomplished cook. I'm usually in charge of the cooking come holiday time, I've been known to whip up some excellent meals out of random ingredients found in somebody else's kitchen.

So somebody tell me, why oh why can't I bake worth a damn?

I am staring at a mass of (admittedly delicious) baked...

If I were to guess where you work, weeeell, I'd just assume you're overqualified. You probably could have ended the debate by presenting the scholars with a nice block of cheese (cut in half of course), or better yet, velveeta w/ weiners.
sockpuppet:
true, at least for certain values of "okay"... biggrin

The Mom Unit is out of ICU, sipping broth and calling to ask me which movies to watch. Things are well.

I, on the other hand, am sick as a dirty wet dog. Apparently my immune system is everybody's bitch. Yes, rhinoviruses, I'm looking at you.

I'm back and at work in San Francisco, after my extended trip East. My mother's surgery went well, although I won't really feel secure until she is out of the ICU.

I expect to be madly busy over the next few weeks.
