so i'll start with my birthday and go from there...
after work, spott took me to red house tattoo to get vine bracelets on my wrists and vine crescents on my feet. they are all sorts of cute, especially now that they are mostly healed. after i got home from being made more colorful on the outside, i got a phone call from ma. she and her husband offered to legally adopt me... i STILL don't know how i feel about that. but i'm getting ahead of myself...
thursday morning (8-04), spott, nemesis, and i got up at the asscrack of dawn to meet their parents and sister at cracker barrel for breakfast. that was the official start of my first chicago roadtrip. of course, nemesis forgot her dress (necessary for part of the vacation), so we had to stop back at home, but at least it was on the way! then followed 12 hours in a car...
we arrived in darien, a chicago suburb, in the evening on thursday. i met a good portion of their family--who, oddly enough, get along--and we checked into the hotel.
friday was preparations for the grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary party and renewal of vows. the whole thing was a ton of fun... except for the part that spott & nemesis's mom found out right before we went that a guy she worked with committed suicide. she was a bit of a mess. so she drank a bit of wine, cried before & during the renewal of vows (with me sitting behind her telling spott i just wanted to hug her mommy), and actually accepted hugs. she really isn't a hug kind of person, and i didn't hug her during the ceremony, but nemesis did. after the ceremony, we all went downstairs for dinner, and i made a point of going over to hug her. at that point, the woman who never really seemed to have an opinion on my existence, she said "you know i love you too, right?"... weird. refreshing in that "OMG MY GIRL'S MOMMY LOVES ME!" kind of way, but weird. after dinner, which was thoroughly amusing, thanks to the careful consideration of the table arrangements, we went upstairs for some dancing. which, of course, i started. the dance floor was bare when i got to it, and since i knew getting spott up there first thing was going to be one hell of a challenge, i dragged nemesis up there instead. heh. then others followed, led mostly by spott's mom--which was awesome... until she grabbed me up and taught me to waltz because, as she put it "none of my family has any rhythm!". that made me dizzy enough to sit down for a couple minutes. after that, i danced pretty much every song. most of the slow songs, i danced by myself. that is, except the one where i danced with spott's daddy, and the one where i danced with spott and nemesis (i think... mmm alcohol...). talking about alcohol, the bartender was a classy old chap... really knew what he was doing, and was really good at it to boot. i didn't even get to tip him, though, because he took off like a bat out of hell when the party was over. oh yeah, spott and nemesis's aunt, pooh (anyone want to guess what her name is?
), was DISTRACTING. she has a "classic figure". fairly petite, but curvy in that good way, and the dress she wore that night had a... shall we say... plunging neckline. she had to dance carefully to make sure she didn't fall out of her dress. she also heard it all night from her sisters poking fun at her... um... endowments. damn that was funny. it was also convenient because their poking fun made people want to look, which let me look more than once... then we all left.
saturday and sunday we spent most of the days hanging out, swimming, enjoying having enough people to play catchphrase, and in general visiting with family. spott's mom convinced me to call work to try to get tuesday off too, so everyone could stay for an adventure monday. i got my store manager to rearrange the schedule and cover the shift for me.
monday we went to the jade dragon, a fairly popular tattoo place in chicago, to get the pott girls tattooed. since monkey hadn't decided what she wanted to do with her teapot, it ended up being spott, nemesis, and their mom that got tattooed. their mom got a very cute flowered teapot on her foot, about the size of a half dollar. nemesis got the same teapot with a teddy bear coming out the top and the words that say "i'm a little tea pot" around it. also very cute. and spott, true to spott style, got some blackwork done with an empty space in the middle shaped like the teapot her mom & sis got... it looks freaking cool. definitely NOT cute, but very very cool. everybody else that had sworn (before the actual action was in front of them, of course) that they were going to share in the art chickened out. sad, really. i was hoping to watch more colorful stabbings. heh... someone asked me if i was getting tattooed again too. i told them the only thing that would have been appropriate that day was the words "not a pott" tattooed on me somewhere, and that would be a little pointless, so no. besides, my own new tattoos were barely 5 days old, and were at the stage where they itched like the dickens. yeah, so no. not a chance.
tuesday was another "get up at the asscrack of dawn" day for the trip home. then, all of a sudden, after slightly less than 12 hours in a car, we were home. i know i drove for at least a couple hours of the home trip, but i don't remember it at all. could be the migraine i was driving with, and the fact that most of the time i was driving, spott and nemesis were sleeping. still, i say me driving with a semi-blinding headache is considerably better than spott or nemesis driving sleeping
. like i said--all of a sudden.
wednesday i went back to work with the headache still hanging on. it hurt. alot. and i had an ever-loving DISASTER to clean up. and my DM stopped by to do my mid-year check-in. basically, it sucked hard. bad things man, bad things. although, i got an excellent review. go me.
after all of that, i've had a fairly uneventful time of the past week or so. i've worked alot, shopped a little, sold a couple pieces of jewelry, and that is about it. oh, yeah, and nemesis FINALLY got interviewed. yesterday. nothin like waiting to the last second. summer new-hires are supposed to be BEFORE back-to-school season. mrrf.
i worked a long day yesterday, 9am-7:30pm, so today it is time to get my home back in order. if you have my yahoo info, i will be on messenger invisible. later all!
