ok work... i've ranted about work a couple of times, and basically it comes down to this:

i work for officemax. actually, specifically, i work at copymax. i am a "copymax sales associate", which means i am glued to the counter, and i get all the bullshit little stuff to do, such as helping people in self serve and cashing people out. i do this because i need a full time job, and copy/print is where most of my training is.

unfortunately, i don't see being "counter girl" as a copy/print job. it has very little to do with making anything. i worked at a kinko's for 2 years doing everything in the store but ordering, and that was only because i didn't have a manager password to log onto the order system. i opened the store (which means i had a key and a passcode for the security system), i did bookkeeping (which means i had access to the safe), and i had the code for the keybox. that's a bit of responsibility. i knew how to run and to do basic service on every machine in the place, with few maintenance exceptions on, say, the drill, and i knew how to do everything WELL. when i put in for a promotion and raise, i was refused on the grounds that it was a customer service position, and i was more valuable in production. my boss said he would give me an adequate raise. three months later, i hadn't seen that raise, and was thoroughly disgruntled because i had discovered that new hires were making more than i was with 2 years experience. so i left.

at the time i didn't really need the job. i was with a guy i thought i would marry, he made enough to support us financially, and i stayed home to take care of our home and pets. have i mentioned before that i am the domestic in my relationships? yeah, that's me...

i decided last summer that i wanted a part time job just for some extra spending money. i put in at an officemax near me for the copymax department, and was hired 2 days later. turns out, i loved that job but hated my direct supervisor. he made everything 3 times as complicated as it had to be, and that made me absolutely crazy. still, i was doing production, so i stuck it out until something potentially better came up. i left officemax on good terms, putting in my 2 weeks notice, and making sure that if the other opportunity didn't pan out that i would be welcome to come back.

when i called the store manager last november to see about getting something full time, she pulled some strings and helped me get into the job i am at now. i was hard-up for a regular paycheck, so i took it. it is making me miserable, but i stay because there is a production supervisor who is likely leaving in the next couple months. he just graduated with a bachelors in graphic design, and can make considerably more money NOT working at officemax. i am hunting his job, and i think everyone knows it. he and the other supervisor have both promised to suggest me for the position when he does go.

until then, i get to deal with the general public, whose collective IQ is only that of its slowest individual... and that makes me sad. at least i have a few good regulars, and i am getting to be good friends with one of my coworkers. see, women, unlike men, can work and talk at the same time, which leads me to other stories.......

for later. now i have to get showered, put on the robot costume, and prepare myself for name-tagged navy blue and khaki hell.

later all!
