most of the day yesterday, i just sat around in as little clothing as i could, reading a book. it wasn't so hot, really, the air was just stifling, suffocating. lacking the energy or will to do more than get up to feed my cats, i would occasionally look out my window at the slightly hazy sunshine outside and sigh. it seemed such a beautiful day! and i was wasting it! i'd think i should be doing something, at least! getting something done, making my day off productive!. still, i just sat there...

until i noticed the sky turning grey. i'll admit, it snuck up on me, transforming from the light, hazy blue it had been through bright white, light grey, and finally on the horizon, ominous pewter.

when i realized the weather was changing rather dramatically, i made myself get up. i had a snack. i drank some water. i moved. seeing those heavy clouds move in, i realized the suffocating feeling was temporary, and i started to work. oh, don't get me wrong. i didn't do MUCH. i picked up a bit, washed the dishes in the sink, did a load of laundry, planned dinner... rain began to fall, starting gently. as lightning began to flicker, and the rumble of thunder rolled in, i was moving, doing, breathing, walking, bending, lifting... my brain woke up from the story dreams, and finally i felt better.

after a little while, i sat down at my computer, thinking to contact friends and check email. instead, i peered out the tall window to my left, watching the lightning and waiting for the thunder. or not waiting for the thunder, as some of the bolts struck close, flashing and crashing in the same instant.

the body of the storm, the bulk of it, was magnificent. the rain roared on the roof, ticked like falling dominoes on the windows. the lightning blazed every second or two, the thunder a steady drumroll matching each streak. i felt the charge in the air stand the tiny hairs on the back of my neck on end.

as storms do, this one passed. the sky to the west lightened, turned orange as the setting sun cast its colors on the clouds. the sun set, still sharing its brightness with the remaining towering clouds, transforming the orange to yellow streaked with bright blue where gaps in the clouds let the sky show through, and finally fading, all of it, to darkness.
mokole:
ahhh, god i love storms smile looks like we might be getting another one here today. though, in some of the rain we've been getting, it's hard to operate a forklift thru it, when the water cuts your brakes out wink i like the idea of you lying around in as little as possible smile
