Long Time, No Post

It's been over a year since I posted anything here, so I thought I'd post some photos that showed what I've been up to in the nature photography hobby. Most of these were taken at the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge and this first bunch shows how the Savannah NWR is a juxtaposition of nature and industry; the NWR sits across the Savannah River from Georgia Ports Authority, a paper mill, and a sugar refinery. These Wildlife Refuges are my happy places, a refuge of sorts from me - away from the crowds, the bustle, and society in general.

These next photos are some of my favorites from the last year and are representative of some of the wildlife you can see in Coastal Georgia - the place I've come to call home. Some of these photos come from the Harris Neck NWR in addition to the Savannah NWR. Harris Neck is a place I've haven't been able to visit recently because it's been closed; sadly they're having to cut down a large amount of the Refuge's pine trees because of a Southern Pine Beetle infestation.

I'm also a History nut, and earlier this year I had the opportunity to see the Coast Guard's Barque Eagle as it was coming into Savannah for a port call. I watched from Fort Jackson, a 19th century fort that guarded the approach to the port of Savannah. Watching this majestic ship pass by a fort built in the 1800s perhaps gave me an idea of what river traffic in Savannah looked like during the days of sail.

Anyway, I'm going to try to post more often instead of waiting a year between posts. See you next time!
