went to carnegie hall tonight by myself.
The Orchestre de Lyon was doing some 20th century hardcore shit: Bartok, Boulez (who I never had heard before tonite), and grandaddy Stravinsky w/ his "Rite of Spring", which, for anybody who hasn't heard it, was first performed in 1913, but sounds like pre-bob rock metallica as interpreted by aphex twin. it is the bomb, like one of the first. Stravinsky was pretty much one of the first guys to chew up and spit out what the common orchestral piece was supposed to sound like. and it still sounds great.... those early 1900's artists kinda seem pretty contemporary right now...like how egon scheile totally gave birth to the whole heroin chic thing, or whatever we're supposed to call it, whatever. that guy's paintings and sketches are awesome.
boulez was ok...his piece was written in 1968 and really has that whose "planet of the apes" thing going.
