i just blew through this book "Into the Wild" (John Krakauer) about this 24 year old kid chris mccandless, who in 1992, donated his $25,000 college fund to charity, ditched society, his friends, his family and everything, and walked into the Alaskan wilderness with almost nothing but the clothes on his back, never to be heard from again. He tramped around the US by boxcar, etc. for a few years, then did his final odyssey and survived off of the land in Alaska for 120 days before he perished. Crazy, crazy story of someone who was born 100 years too late. Whether or not he was fatally idealistic or idiotic is debateable. But it's a quick read, and a fascinating subject.
