A little Fall Of Rain...

Of course , the one day off from the Les Mis tech this week...and it's pouring rain. The last week of April always seems to be like a summer teaser. Nice and sunny, warm... we put away our coats and hunt the city for cheap sunglasses. Only to pullout the coats and lose the sunglasses for another month and half.

The show's tech is going very slowly...(" She's bigger, longer and meaner than you think..." the Broadway touring crew used to tell the locals ) But, so far everyone is very cool, calm and vigilant about safety. Especially concerning the young actors who play the young Cossette, Eponine and Gavroche as they transit about the stage.

Its good to see, hear and totally warranted. Although this production is being done without the raked revolve, and the articulated Barricade. With the actors doing a fair amount of set and prop piece operation. It's still a very dark lit, black coloured set swathed in theatrical mist and fog.

As long as people don't get cavalier about nightly grind that Les Mis is in operation. We should be fine. So far all the crew's safety concerns and issues have been settled without having to call any independent safety consultants. And that's exactly what I've been hoping to see from the outset. The only two remaining to be seen safety issues may be more related to the length of time, and number of cues per person, that the crew runs during the show. ( The "Big" version of the show has 30 production personnel, including tech swings we have slightly less than half that on this local version ) So, I've tried to quietly ask the crew to always keep that in mind. Especially before they say for certain they can take on any extra track cues alone. As it's looking like the show is going to run through to its extension date, tickets are selling so well.

Everyone's writting about rain! It hardly ever rains here. It snowed a couple of weeks ago and killed the houseplants I forgot out on the balcony, though....
