Mamma Mia...Here I go again....

Ah, finally a day without a day call. Slept into 1pm listening to that light Vancouver rain and the season really change into fall. falls my favorite time. I mean, summer's alright, and has it's benifits. Women show more skin, get a little drunker more often, and flirt a bit more. But I can do without all the sweating and...

(Do you) Bite The Hand That Feeds....

I hate criticising a show.... Especially one that's been out for only 5 days. ( But still, with all the money that's been put into this tour.)

The change in call time starts from 8am to 6am was due to the crew needing more prep time. And it showed. Even the basics seemed to be forgotten. They had...

It's actually Trent's song, "Hurt" wink Johnny did a great cover of it, though. That's quite alright about the stuff, man. Next time we all go for an event, I'll have to hear that MGB biggrin

Lord I hate following spoting, I've done so much of it over the last year and I only liked one show. That was the pantomine so I may have gone a little mad. Thank god for free t-shirts without them and free beer the entertainment industry would fall apart.

The london money is still crap, but then no-one works in this biz to be rich. At least that's what I tell myself. All the theatre unions at the moment seem to be in a state of flux. All I know is that my contract for this job is a lot better than my last one. I get paid for overtime! shocked

6 f'ing am......

That's mondays NIN call time....

I'll have to get a Taxi cause I don't trust getting up early enough to catch the bus out to the Coliseum. Man, this is why not having a car in this town sucks in my business. The hours are not transit friendly. Out's end at 2 am. Touring.... not a problem. You jump on the bus...

The Used.....

Another bloody Spot call.....

I hate Robert Juliet. Whoever he is, this bloody Frenchman couldn't design a followspot to save his life. ( The best Followspots tend to come from countries that make really good high caliber weapons. United States with the Super Trooper and Germany with ARRI make the best of both. Followed by Lycian, orginally from Britain. But, really. Try to...

oh, and damn you for working nin. and damn them for not rescheduling in my midsized crap ass arena show.

Now that i think of it, the spot I was bitching about was a Robert Juliet most definately (is that the model, the ivanhoe?). Twas a life insurance corp. show from toronto, two weeks of nice, polite, smart people.
I love shows from canada. But the lingo differences are hysterical. Fanout=squid.

edited to say, thank god for the troopers and the lycians

Nice and polite that's us: Smart? depends...

Here in Canada we're so polite that we feel we have to applogize even if we come close to invading another persons personal space. Let alone, knock into them.

I know far more Canadians who say "Oops Sorry" than, "Eh"

fanout is an eastern Canadian term We use break-out or break-in depending on it being female or male connectors on the end.

When it rains...It pours.

Works going like gangbusters right now. I've got several Nonunion production companies calling. And I haven't sent out a resume. Chan Centre, UBC Opera, NASCO and the Alley Cat people are bugging me. The last one I want nothing to do with cause they're just trying to mine my head for Vogue stage info and I basically had to tell them...

Christ, don't remind me.
A nightmare of mine is some horrible crisis in the world, which makes the entertainment industry obsolete, and I'm shit out of luck.
At least us stagehands are an adaptable bunch.

Muhammad, Scientology.....

We had the tennant's meeting last night. I live in this cool old funky warehouse space build in 1907 as a Feed and Tack Store with apartments above. It's looks like a commercial brown stone and is the oldest building on the block. Right on Granville street, in the New Entertainment Zone. Four blocks from the old movie theatre district and 8 blocks...

Landmark forum is a, "self actualization course." with psycobabble. And involves members taking 22 hour no sleep counseling sessions that tear down internal self realization walls. And then the counselors (team leaders) and group peer pressure build you back up the forum way. But only to the first level.

Then, to continue in you quest for perfected selfhood, A member has to volunteer time at the centre and/or recruit family members. friends and loved ones which they get points for. Which they trade( with ever increasing amounts of money.) To take even more exclusive and presonal self actualization forums at resorts world wide. To eventually become a Lankmark forum team leader Or at least this is what I gather from the freaky S.M. I dated for that very brief period.

That's scary as hell. Yeesh.

System Of A Down....

What do you know, a large T-shirt. A free work shirt I can wear from a band that actually I would go see if I got comps. It's hard to discribe S.O.A.D. It's kinda a cross between Primus, Porno for Pyros and Rage Against The Machine. kindof a thinking man's (or woman's) prog metal. I suspect they're from Southern California due...

With a Cultch dance show setup, Awards show, SUD's electrics hang and focus at ACT, Alexonfire electrics call at the forum and the Awards show out I'm almost fully booked til the 27th. And I've been warned to keep next week open by Skip. The locals...

When I'm drunk I miss stewardesses.....

It's a fixation I know. On those few moments way back when on tour we would fly back home from the east coast. ( Thank god for coast to coast rental vehicles.) The cost of shipping by air from Nova scotia band gear is oddly less expensive than traveling back to B.C. when you have no gigs or huge...

As a door closes a window opens....

I'm starting to get nonunion work without even pushing around a resume. O.K. it's just a day call at Finning art space but the pay is competitive and it's electrics which is what I was hoping for.

God, that lightened my mood. I fear that without a regular seasonal gig I'll get depressed. And my sleep patterns are...

It's fun hangin in the air 50 feet over the auditorium floor of the Stanley theatre in a Bosun's chair focusing lights. I'm often amazed that i get paid to do this ( Mind you I could get more money doing it out on tour. But that means sleeping on busses with stinky roadies and deisel fumes.)

But, it's odd working a show at the...

Tonight, after finishing the Ann Frank Hang ( The actress doesn't even look close to 14 yet alone Jewish...) I ventured out into polite society. And Met up with a bunch of Sg members here in Vancouver.

Vancouver has this specter about it as being a place where it's hard to make friends unless your part of some cliquey rareafied social strata. For me it's...

Hey,

I think I know what you mean. I have a terrible time keeping new friends. I'm pretty good at talking to people I don't know, in class, or just randomly on the street, but I can never actually make any sort of move. I don't know how to ask for some ones number or email without it seeming like I'm trying to pick them up, or without being afraid of rejection.

What kind of rigger should I be? On an oil rig or on a ship?
wannie:
Wow, thanks for the advice. Do you have to have some sort of qualifications to get into a job like that?
