Symbols can be such a powerful thing. I have a strong tendency to recognize them all around, in my life, in ways that most people would probably say are excessive, but they matter a great deal to me. To me, symbols seem to be the underlying themes, the continuity of all our lives, the things that tie together the elements of life that we can't manage to understand otherwise.
I guess that's why church architecture and stained-glass windows fascinate me so much, despite my being decidedly un-christian. The symbols of christianity are really incredible, exceeding those lo almost any other religion that comes immediately to mind, with the possible exception of Hinduism and, possibly, of Gnosticism, in the religions I've managed to explore so far.
The importance of these symbols is fundamental to me, to my life. I am striving to exceed my own humanity, I think, to become a symbol. A Jungian archetype. Something that ripples throughout the lives of those that will come after me. I want, and need, and strive, and dream, to become something divine.
