Time for an update.. smile

I got horrendously drunk for the first time in a while yesterday. For me there are various levels of getting drunk, say, one to ten, and usually the most I will get is about seven. However when it involves a day trip to Oxford, most of the day spent in the pub, and many pints of lager mixed in with cider and shots of Sambuka and god knows what, then you reach a 9.5. I remember crawling out of the pub shouting about the Greeks winning the football tournament and trying to sing Greek songs. However I didn't know any so I just went La La La. Oxford is a beautiful city though with all the old protected buildings and I would love to have studied there. Alas, my grades have never been good enough for this place and I doubt they'll accept me for a postgraduate course. ah well.

Anyway, I remember having one major conversation with my friend and actually changing his view, which is quite rare. He was of the opinion that he wanted to have children and leave part of him in the world when he died, evolutionary theory, and fair enough. However he was adamant that these children would have to be his own blood and genetics. He would never adopt, so he said. I told him that this was not necessarily the important thing. I said to him that it was upbringing and the way that your parents bring you up that is their true gift. And this is only natural because they mould and shape you as you are growing up. Of course it's true that you that you carry the genetics of your real father and mother, but a lot of these characteristics have to be triggered by the circumstances you find yourselves. For instance, if you are genetically predisposed to be an alcoholic, you won't necessarily be one if you never start drinking. That tennis player Maria Sharapova, winner of the Wimbledon tennis. She would never have got so good if her parents didn't work on the initial gifts that she showed at a young age. It was relevant to me because my father is not real father. He is my stepdad because my real father left at a young age. But he is more part of me than my real dad because i grew up with him and became well-adjusted and balanced because of it. He is always my 'true' father and my half-sister will never be half a sister to me. She is my true sister forever. It doesn't necessarily mean the transfer of the gene pool.

Drunken conversations are the best for getting really deep thoughts out of people. Then you feel sick and sleep on the coach! biggrin
