Why can't guy friends just stay guy friends? Why does it always have to end up in one person wanting to start a relationship? I mean, do people just mistake friendliness for flirting?

I had coffee with a friend today, and I just should have known better. It ended...awkwardly, to say the least.
Funny how things work out. When I really want to find a boyfriend, no one's around, but now that I legitimately don't want a relationship, guys are everywhere.

I just hate having to lose good friends over it.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I wouldn't flirt for any reason--I'm happily married with children, but I genuinely LIKE the people I meet here and enjoy the friendship and camaraderie. But there will always be those who get the wrong idea.

I'm very sorry if you have to lose friends over such basic human emotions. It's not right.

You have my promise that I will remain your respectful friend.

Yeah... that makes things hella awkward. I think there's just a point in a platonic relationship with a girl that a guy realizes that she's pretty cool and would make a good girlfriend and guys, being guys, will try to go for it, not really considering the potential negative fallout. whatever

This has only happened to me once though, and I think that was a bit because I was rebounding from the end of a long-term relationship so idk.
