So, have you ever realized that a certain phrase or mannerism that you've been exposed to your whole life is actually exclusive to a certain group of people? I mean, being from the South, there are a lot of...colorful expressions that I've been saying my whole life, and I never even knew that they were "Southern" phrases. For example, if I'm about to go to the store, I'll say "I'm fixin' to go to the store." Or if a child is crying because his mom won't buy him a toy, he's throwing a "hissy fit" or "temper tantrum." I was really surprised when I was talking to one of my friends from New England that only people from the South say that. And this got me thinking: what other expressions that I though were common, are actually only said by certain people? Are there things that only Northern people say? Mid-Westerners?
I actually Googled examples of Southern phrases, and I must admit, I've heard (and, sadly, even said) most of them. It kind of makes me question my environment, haha. I've got a short list of the fairly common ones or the ones that I like. I never realized how funny some of them are until now :3
