Merry New Ye-ah!!!

Not only is this being remembered by me because of it's use by Eddie Murphy in Trading Places, but also for a more personal reason, and one which I imagine will be seared into my brain until I develop some kind of degenerative condition which fizzled it out by way of chemical imbalance.

Saying those words calls to mind the image of my older brother at Boy Scout Camp with me, where he was some kind of senior leader and I was some random kid who didn't particularly care to be at boy scout camp. It was some kind of ridiculous time in the morning, as is a requisite of boy scout camps, and it was his duty to wake us all up from our slumber inside of our semi-closed uncomfortable tents.

This wouldn't be such a strange image, if not for the fact that he was doing it by marching around with a large pot on his head, clanging large pots together loudly and screaming "MERRY NEW YEAR!" in a kind of strange almost-german accent.

The bizarre ritual not only irritated the hell out of (thereby waking up) everyone, but did so with such efficiency that everyone remembered and repeated the custom at random intervals. And so, years later, it still occasionally pops into my head, and certainly any time someone says something like it, bangs pots together, or happens to be watching the end of Trading Places.

-Man, I love my brother. I'm glad I let him influence me as efficiently as he did.
Dave

PS: Treated canvases and finished dawring/printing all the artwork for the next 5 paintings. Check em out. Hopefully I'll find time soon to complete the 6 that are yet unfinished.
