So, about my unexplained good mood on Thursday, let me explain a bit.
So, if anyone knows me very well, they know I've had horrible issues dealing with the seemingly endless supply of insecurity in my life about the lack of stability in my career. It always seemed like I couldn't get comfortable, because no one ever gave me a reason to believe that i should ever let my guard down or not be worried about how long I'd be employed or what my future was. I simply always ahd to go forward on good faith and be constantly looking over my shoulder.
Well, thanks to friend and fellow SG-er Surlyclown, I started work at a little company as a temp for 2 weeks, and then thanks to my own commitment to doing a good job for them and a bit of good timing, I've been working for them for a few months now, and it has made me happier than I've been in any other job for many reasons. However, there was still a significant haunting concern, due to my freelance/contractor status, and the uncertainty of where I was going and what I would be doing with them in the future. They simply couldn't commit to anything, and given that more and more of the work I was doing was trying to help them find more work for the company, I just couldn't push it too hard or start making demands. I just had to work as hard and well as I could and stick with them for the sake of enjoying the work I was doing with them, and hope that the ride would be a smooth one.
So, on Thursday they decided to tell me that their plan for 2005 included bringing me on as a full-time employee with a salary, raise, benefits and all that good stuff. This is a really big deal, since they only have 3 full-time employees, and now I'm the 4th. Even more incredible than the raise and the benefits and the security is the fact that they told me frankly and honestly that they felt I was being undercompensated for the level of work I was providing and that I had proven my value to the company while doing significant work to grow and improve their business. They also told me that I would be paid in full for the next two weeks without being expected to work. Hearing them say all that made all the difference.
-So, in short, I've made the largest achievement in my career that I've ever experienced, and did it all simply by enjoying myself and working hard to do the best job I could for everyone I work with. I love small companies, and really enjoy working for this one, and am incredibly happy that I can now really say that I am truly a part of it. Big deal for me, I'm happy boy. smile
