A departure from being overwhelmed with my big crazy week of pressure to be bewildered by my country:
Ugh. Ammendment? Who could even imagine it?
Who, in an election year, would be so assinine (rhetorical question) as to actually try to state In the fucking U.S. Consistution, of all places, a statement of pure opinion and theory, which has been fairly clearly argued by people all over the world when the issue came to light.
This is basically a group of people in power who want to say "oh yeah, well we think We're right, stupid-head, and we're the ones who actually get to vote on laws and stuff, so we're gonna say that our opinion is right in the LAW, and then you won't be able to argue, neener-neener."
At least it seems like it's something that your average senator is unsure of and , but even thinking about the possibility of ammending the constitution to include a personal/religious opinion makes me shudder.
Yeah, it's not like it's Our constitution or anything, as long as our elected senators are more closed-minded than us, it won't make a difference.
I love that the RI Senator can't go as far as to say "that's fucked up and wrong", he can only say "It would be seen as a political liability".
Here's my new idea, everyone who takes or runs for public office should have to be legally required to be on truth serum all the time, 24/7. The amount of open manipulation of the public perception that goes into the government (And I know it's nothing new) is sickening.
Call me crazy, I just feel like the government shouldn't be run with the same strategies people use to sell me cars and cigarettes and movies. I know it works, because people buy inefficient cars and poison cigarettes and see bad movies, but the government seems a little more important to me.
How can the legal equivalent of "ewwww, gross." actually make it to the point of even being considered as a constitutional ammendment? How can there even be a debate? Let's all move to freaking Canada.
"Alliance for Marriage?" Couldn't these lobbyists money be spent on something more usefull? Like Maybe guns for the people we dumped in the desert a couple years ago?
Bush himself is pushing this ammendment while campaigning, and it makes me crazy to think this is a stand which will actually GAIN him some votes in a lot of areas. I'm sorry, weren't we, like, in the middle of a war we started fighting for no reason and was never really explained to us why we're still there and expect to be there for a few more years? Aren't soldiers, y'know, getting killed a bunch for pretty much no reason?
Oh I forgot about that, I too busy hating them damn queers and their constantly wanting to be able to love each other legally. Man, that's such a threat to my nation! Bush/Cheney '04!
-Go tell someone how you feel, Learn more, and at least for God's sake, VOTE.

Sucks you can't hit up the con, but I'll definitely let you know when my LA plans firm up a little more.
