i just saw the BEST book cover i have ever seen. EVER. the book is "a world without walls" by former wto director general mike moore. yeah, it's pro-globalization bullshit. BUT, the book cover is a photo of one of those giant puppets from the WTO protests with a sign around the neck that says "michael moore kills the poor." true, this guy is evil,...

One reason I need to get to Portland is to make another trip to Powell's. Mmmm, Powell's.
If there's a better word in the Enlish language than "wankfest", I'd like to know what it is...
(Oh yeah, and you rock because you list "Leviathan"in your favorites. One of my favorite seminars ever was an entire quarter on Hobbes. I never get tired of it.)

i just watched the evening news for the first time in ages. anyone who still thinks the mainstream media has a liberal bias has politics that took a right tun at mussolini. i get the vast majority of my news from kboo, npr, indymedia, and le monde. and after watching the jingoistic propaganda spewed on the six o'clock news, i remembered why.

question: is it...

I cannot escape people who think we should boycott the french, my mother is one. What's really tough is that I want to direct movies and she won't see them because she hates almost every actor out there for being a liberal.

so what happened to me? I voted for Nader. jeez. But I think it's better to mix it up, but I don't really have a choice...

That's an interesting question. Generally, I hang around with fairly like-minded people, albeit one step less radical (if you move to Seattle, I offer to be your token overeducated pansy-ass non-Marxist leftist friend. wink) But on the other hand, I always feel compelled to read some conservative media sources, etc. And teaching here definitely puts you in contact with some right-wingers. Which is probably good, although I have no desire to hang out with any of 'em...

not much new to report...working, writing, protesting...i could bore you with a rant about the need for civil disobedience and direct action, and the history of social revolutions (my "revolution studies" concentration finally pays off...) but i'll be nice....

french fries, freedom fries, whatever....i ate in the senate cafeteria for an entire summer and they were disgusting. fries are not difficult to fuck up, but somehow they managed. seriously, the senate dining hall made my college cafeteria look like haute cuisine. that is one area i know our tax dollars aren't going.

the new deerhoof album is amazing....go buy it. listen to...

I will not eat them if they're called Freedom Fries. and that's a damn big sacrifice smile

I talked to my mother today. She is boycotting the French. Another good reason to eat all the fries I want, while they're still french.

I saw a great piece today about the whole fucking "freedom toast" thing, but I have to save what little "A" material I have for my journal. wink
Article in Barfly? I must take a look. (But only if you buy the fall edition of the Journal of Supreme Coourt History. tongue Just kidding; I wouldn't wish that on anybody less evil than Trent Lott. But I'll make sure to send you a copy for fire-starting purposes.)
Hope thimgs are still going blissfully. smile

entropy, straight up.
scooter11:
Ah, yes, my eternal solution! Hey, I'm nothing if not a pretentious wanker. smile (One of these years I'm getting a SIFF pass. I did pull a triple-header last year which consisted of "The Happiness of the Kakutanis", "In Praise of Love," and "The Piano Teacher." The feel-good movies of the year!)

I must admit that entropy is probably a good one-word summary of my current existence...

this weekend is shaping up to be pretty mellow...house party tonight, blackbird tomorrow, and radical cheerleader practice sunday.

qotd: top five activist moments (for those of you so inclined)?

1. being on stage in front of a sell out crowd at laluna at my last rock for choice benefit. said benefit was also protested....
