moving stuff out my mother's house with my sister this morning, she said something like, "there's this woman I ran into the other day, I can't remember her name, but she thinks you're gay..."
to which I replied something like, "Christ! who DOESN"T?"
this lead to a discussion on the subject.
I live in a small, fairly conservative town.
I'm single.
I don't care much...

And now some going-nowhere-remarks:...
I have no excuses for typing "Kurtzman" instead of "Herriman", but an explanation. In fact, I never owned a hardback collection of Krazy Kat (so, my advice is: buy one if you find one! If you do that, tell me, and I promise to drink a beer for you): I read most of it in a French comics monthly that published (it was years ago) either vintage comics (such as Herriman's, of course, also Dirks's, the very first Elsie Segar's, early McCay's : the dreams of the Rarebit's Fiend... The Squirrel Cage ... who did The Squirrel Cage?) and more or less "underground" contemporary comics: Kurtzman as wall as S. Clay Wilson, Justin Green... the (then prolific) Dutch underground... all that stuff...(all that was printable in black & white, in fact)
So I've Krazy Kat stuck in a corner of my memory, without having read it or read references to it for years; when I saw this little panel on a page of a site Morgan recommended (thanks Morgan!); called: The Flying Moose of Nargothrond, (i recommend it strongly) I had no hesitation: it was mine! so I copied it, reduced it, made it into a profile vignette... without rewarding George Herriman's manes with the appropriate thoughts. I have now -thanks for your intervention- made amends for this wrong, or so I hope.

I would like to have some musical advice for you... but I realize that the knowledge I have of american song music is merely made of bits, and pieces, and rags...

early afternoon, listening to Uncle Tupelo, smoking like a fiend.
spent the morning finishing up the storage shed with the sister--kinda cool finding a few paperbacks with the Smith Family sticker still stuck (about ten years ago I lived in Eugene OR for a stretch & spent about all my money & most of my time there), including Mickey Spillane's I the Jury which I...

dumb, vaguely embarassing:
it wasn't until a couple of days ago that I realized that the "aim" over in the profile what-not stands for instant messaging & not just, like, "aim".

Hey, it's an easy mistake to make, when so many of the girls' and members answers to that question are joke answers. Toreena's used to be "low" and voltaire's is something like "to please"
I always feel embarrased because I click on the links to add them to my buddy list before i realize it was a joke answer...

yesterday morning, went over to mom's house with my sister & talked about what's going where. today we have to do the same thing with a storage shed out of town a little ways. my sister set off a bug bomb out there a couple of hours ago that should clear out any biological nastiness, replacing it with a nice pervading mist of Chemical nastiness....

I'm sorry you've had such a lousy few weeks, my sympathies about your grandma and your mom. That's rough. But on a higher note, you are a very good story teller. Good Luck! <Hug>
sunday morning--
when I go back to work a week from today I'll have been off for the better part of the month--not like it's been much of a vacation.
been up for about 2 hours now, listening to NPR as slightly fuzzy background (I get the Las Vegas station, but the antenna has snapped off my boom box & rather than trying to fix...

I read somewhere there is an ever-growing number of strangers in the world.
So, unsurprisingly, this message of sympathy is from another stranger.

last night at about 9pm they turned off the life-support on my mother. the doctor said that it could take a few minutes or a few hours.
at 8:45 a.m. they pronounced her dead.
it was a long night. it's been a long day.
R.I.P. me-ma.

what to say?
I'm burning up my sick leave in one fell swoop.
mom's still in intensive care, respitory tubes in her mouth, a dozen or so different tubes attatched to the rest of her anatomy--so far I've read "Equal Rites" by Terry Pratchett & most of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" to her (perhaps on the theory that listening to me drone...

That's the way my grandmother died - showing no signs of being in there or being elsewhere. I, too, talked to her for hours. Sometimes I stayed silent, feeling silly. Was it for fear of looking ridiculous if someone happened to come in? I'm afraid it was. I've all the time in the world now for regretting not to have told her more.

sister called this morning. get to the hospital.
mom's heart conked out last night. she's been talking about getting a "living will" for a few years now but never got around to it, so they put her on life-support--didn't look like there was much there under the tubes & hoses.
they are going to life-flight her to SLC in the next hour or so, but...

That sucks yo.
I would say my prayers are with you, but I don't believe in God and therefore do not pray. But, I'm thinking positive thoughts for you.
I hope she's OK.
