I put off doing my taxes this year until the last minute because I figured (for some ungodly reason) that I'd be getting money back, & having funds in potentia works better for me than having it in hand, as I tend to do rather foolish things with money in hand...I finally worked out a rough draft the other day & figure that, in addition to the 3 thou I've already paid, they want another 500... BY TOMMORROW.
money--beleive me if you will--doesn't mean a hell of a lot to me--I've lived, without too much stress at Rock Bottom Poverty all the way up to Lower Middle Class. in the past year I've blown half or more of my paycheck on...whatever...cigarettes, beer, bad loans to friends, impulse buys..., whatever...I'm COMFORTABLE with the fact that I'm idiotic with my money.
--the money I've paid in wouldn't pay for the PAINT JOB on a cluster bomb...but that's what I'm thinking of...all these fucking munitions.
we don't know how to get clean drinking water to much of the world, but we sure know how to pulverize the parched parts when we feel the need to.
& no, I don't think that, deep down "it's all about oil" (not just Iraq, but Afghanistan, Venezuela, Alaska, Saudi Arabia, et-fucking-cetera)--but "why can't we, um, GET AWAY from oil? or meat, or dicking around with the genetics of things so that we have to go on Red Alert when something goes amok rather than paying attention to how it all works together--on its own--in the first place?..in short, the tired old argument of why we put all of this ingenuity, effort, & money into destruction, while anything that might be a bit beneficial is looked upon--around here, anyway, as "hippie treehugger bullshit" (& in political circels by more polite terms, but the sentiment's the same)
ah, well. babble babble babble. I thought a bit about writing a protest letter & writing a check for $17.76 to the IRS, but I'll probably just pay the full amount & eat Ramen for the next month.

But the question is.. do they DESERVE one, these guys from the IRS? Are they able to fully appreciate it? In this subculture of theirs, aren't they taught that a man's greatest literary achievement is a well-calligraphed signature on a check?
