it's been a while since I've written anything about the prison:

the unit I worked in last night has been "locked" down for about a week& a half since Inmate A stabbed Inmate B in the throat at the chow hall. (he's fine, by the way--by which I mean Inmate A, Inmate B was, well, stabbed in the throat, & is unhappy about it.)

Inmate C was busted in the holding cells adjacent to Visiting with 30 grams of meth his girlfriend had passed him during there visit that he stashed in an--um--intimate area--when nobody was looking. the girlfriend was apprehended & plead pressure from his gang buddies.

Inmate D was busted with 2 grams of coke in his cell. (back in the bad old days I purchased similar amounts for self & friends to celebrate it being wednesday, or overcast, or there being a really good episode of "Buffy" on, but I had the good sense not to get sent to prison.)

Inmates E & F were busted with a gollon of "pruno"--(on the little cop-reports we have to fill out it's referred to as "inmate made alchohol"--mix fruit (or jam, or whatever) & sugar (or kool-aid packets) & yeast (or crackers, or pieces of bread)--add heat & wait until you get THAT thirsty.)

there's apparently a new hispanic gang on the yard known as the "1313"'s that's sort of an offshoot of the MRU's (or mexican mafia), which is in addition to the Norteno's & Serreno's (not sure about the spelling there) according to a couple of snitches there's supposed to be a power-play in the next couple of days, but that doesn't neccessarily mean that anything's going to happen.

(the name, apparently, means the thirteenth letter from the front & the back of the alphabet--M--the tatoo is a single Mayan symbol for 13--two horizontal bars with three dots over it, or two (symbols) if you've performed exceptionally in the ranks (made a successful hit.)
& I had my once-a-year "refresher classes" a few days ago (a few lectures by folks in various different departments--medical, mental health, maintenence, etc.) a day of "defensive tactics" (throws, holds, hair-pulls & what-nots, during which I showed the fightin' ability of a small, damp, catatonic kitten in shoe-box, but whatever; & a day at the Range during which I showed the shootin' capability of that same damp little kitten who'd somehow gotten hold of a semi-automatic rifle.

not much else I can think of right now.
chiquita:
total craziness. at least it's not dull.

coincidentally, last night was the final episode of oz. it was pretty good.

have a super day.

Indeed! In a coming episode of my serial I plan to have the damp kitten my unnamed hero (should I name him Duncan Gillis? or Jules de Loiseau?) calls "Ms" fire a semi-automatic rifle, in order to save the guts of her human sidekick. So, considering your abovementioned experience, your advice on how this coup de theatre could be made credible is desperately needed.

PS: it was The Tide at Norderney, or whatever it's called in English. It probably has the name "Norderney" in it. It ends so beatifully with the line "Shahrazad saw the morning breaking and, discreetly, ceased talking".

PPS: Take care.
If your journal was a fiction, the recurrent appearances of the Sharpened Toothbrush could be considered a menacing leitmotiv used with the intent of inducing the reader to fear a tragical issue.
