brief, half-formed thought:
I can't talk about Afghanistan.
I mean, I physically can't talk about Afghanistan.
last night the subject came up at the prison with some co-workers (alright, I brought it up), & the same thing happened that's happened almost every other time it's come up.
& I don't know why, except that the whole subject bugs the living shit out of me, the notion that we've done something truly evil, something beneathe contempt, & that things are rapidly degenerating.
I can't talk about it &, to me, it's embarassing, it's bewildering, it's confusing.
my hands start to shake, my throat tightens--
& I know that I should probably keep my mouth shut anyway, because I'm obviously an idiot--Afghanistan is full of terrorists, right? they just want to kill us right?
they hate our freedom, right?
anyway, it's old news--we did what we went there for (whatver it is)
I should just GET OVER IT, right?

today on NPR's "Studio 360" they're featuring Sarah Jones, who my partner & I saw at the Nuyorican in NYC a few years ago.
she fucking rocks.
