for an impulse, random rental (I do that a lot) the other day I rented "Roadside Prophets"--vaguely remember having heard that it wasn't bad.
it's an okay movie (& it has Arlo Guthrie, Adam Horovitz, John Doe, John Cusack, & Timothy Leary in it.)
what kinda took me back was the realization that most of it was shot around here, apparently when I was going to High School.
this is a bit baffling to me, as this is a tiny frickin town, & anything like that tends to get talked about & rehashed for years (people still talk about when Stephen King came here for a couple of weeks to do some research--a good chunk of "Desperation" is set near here, & the final scene of "Rat Race" was shot here over the course of a week&a-half a few years ago.)
(to my shame, I lent my gangling frame to that particular picture--as a--ahem--mental patient)

anyway, there's a scene at the end where the two protags meet a girl who's hitchhiking out of the area & I could tell it was shot just a few miles out of town. she says something about wanting to go to Haiti, because it has the greatest percentage of the population lacking education.
then she kinda looks around.
"Except maybe here."

I laughed my ASS off.
