pondering the personal, which I guess I'll slip in this space tomorrow a.m.
going into work at midnight instead of 9pm because I have to "qualify" with the mini-14 tomorrow morning (i.e.: put enough holes in paper man in case I'm ever, in the line of duty, attacked by a paper man standing perfectly still.)
this would be the first time I've fired the mini since the last time I qualify (which was, incidetally also the first time I'd ever worked such a device--it took me 3 times to subdue Mr. Napkin.)
we have to qualify twice a year with the shotgun, revolver & mini, although only squad carries revolvers & a mini has only been fired once since the prison opened maybe 13 years ago--during a graveyard shift a couple of years ago two cellies were fighting so the officer in the bubble (control center) popped open the cell & fired a warning shot into it. he was fired.
we also, during Academy, had to learn a bit about riot batons (which we'll also never use), tear gas (ditto) tasers (ditto) taser shield (ditto).
hmmm.

My uncle is a babysitter with a gun at Vacaville's prison here. Oh actually no, I take that back, he works in forensics now! I'm fascinated with that kinda stuff.
