living in a rural-type area (as I do) with internet access can make for a curious combination of instant & delayed gratification.

I lived in NYC for a couple of years & I could pretty much find anything my heart desired, & any number of things that I never knew I wanted or needed until I wandered into a dusty store at random on walkabout. but I was usually broke.

at present, anything I might want (a book, a c.d.--or my present, pressing need, guitar strings) is several hours' drive in any direction.

but I also have the internet, which has the virtue of my being able to find, & buy, just about ANYTHING in minutes, 24 hours a day--but then ya gotta pay shipping (which irks me unreasonably, & there's been a few occasions where I've driven 5 hours to buy something at a store rather than pay an extra 4 bucks for shipping) & you gotta wait a couple of days.

usually, if I'm going to buy something, I don't WANT to wait a couple of days, & I want to HANDLE it first.

for me, I'm pretty good about taking care of whatever bills I might incur in the way of rent, electricity, & what-not--& what's left I tend to get a bit stupid with.

that's one of the reasons I've shyed away from eBay--so much cool stuff! so easy to place bids! or BUY IT NOW!

but last week I went on--after a beer or 2 too many, it must be said--& bid on: 1) a Star Trek 2: Wrath of Khan DVD (one of the finest movies ever made in the history of cinema, in my opinion) 2) a 1910 map of Belgium, 3) a bag of 50 assorted Lego People, 4) a box of 2000 Lego pieces (asst.) (I just decided I needed Legos, I guess)--&--I"m not sure what all else.

turns out I won the DVD (altho I looked it up on Amazon & found out I'm paying more for this used copy that if I bought it new) & the map.
------
I hope I get the lego people.

I don't know why. I just do.

QUESTIONS:

1) Isn't StarTrek 2, Wrath of Khan the coolest movie ever?

2) Nylon vs. Steel--any preferences as far as guitar string go?

3) what would YOU do with 50 Lego people?
tororo:
I can't answer questions 1 and 2....
but question 3! oh boy! There's simply too many things to do......
currently, I would probably end glueing them on a slightly outmoded jacket for having something David Byrne- style to wear in case I'd be invited to a party.

I should just open an animal shelter...that'd make me feel better.
