oy. new look to the site.

kinda freaky.

anyway, very tired at present. got back from the trip to madison & chicago a few days ago. strange, twisted things happened & I eventually made it home, battered & bloody but smiling defiantly in that way I have that is so endearing to some, & utterly unbearable to others.

also, I have a pumpkin from Wisconsin....

heading eastward in 2 days, which I haven't really prepared for except that I'm going to do it & assume that everythings going to come together when the time comes (which is pretty much how I've lived my life up to this point & it's worked out better than any other strategy I've been presented with)

I'll work wednesday night, get a few hours sleep,...

So, for some times, it will be from under the Bridges of Madison County you'll be lurking like a troll, for a change?

Sorry I haven't been so much online lately, and i have left so many of your posts unanswered (they have not been unnoticed, however! Some of them we'll later find an oportunity to discuss, maybe? )
First things first: thanks for the B-day wishes! and second... have the nicest trip! Drive safe, have great time, exhibit proper (or at least appropriate) table manners , come back soon with lots of stories to tell!

we probably all take perverse comfort in our misery. Even though I hate sinking into negative feelings about myself, it is still somewhat like sinking into a comfortable blanket...i'm used to it, it's routine, and so it's comforting.

I admit that I've had my doubts about certain aspects of the Patriot Act (& the upcoming sequel: Patriot Act II: the Revenge), the Department of Homeland Security, the "War on Terrorism" & pretty much everything the Bush team says & does.

that is, until I saw a little something called "Threat Matrix" on the television last night.

if all of our Homeland Security folks...

the following is a response to an email from the owner of the cat that I'm cat-sitting (emailed a couple of minutes ago):

hey there--

glad to hear the you made it safe & sound to Portland--I'll try & get the tape [Lullaby Baxter Trio] in the mail tommorrow, but I'm pretty awful at remembering things like that (I keep meaning to pick up a...

spent about 3 hours yesterday stapling "lost cat" fliers all around town, came home, & of course the lost cat in question was sitting on the front porch, altho she bolted as soon as I approached.

at least I know she's still alive.

near as I can tell, she's been living in the weed-infested lot at the back of my house, among the charred &...

sylvia, whom I'm supposed to be cat-sitting, has disappeared. run off. gone.

2 things: one, the friend who left her in my care said that she'll sometimes disappear for a couple of days & come back to where the food is.

two: the first couple of days I discovered that, even in my little sparsely furnished house, she's pretty good at hiding, & I halfway...

it seems like whenever I get on top of my bills & it looks like I can start socking away a little bit of money towards my eventual escape, SOMETHING will pop up to divest me.

a couple of days ago I recieved one of those bland, plain white envelopes with bland black printing that you know, without there being any external clues or ominous...

I have the same problem will bils!!! it's like saving is impossible... I was ranting to someone about that and she said: Welcome to the real world. You always have to pay somebody... (yeah, that's great news) mad

Kinda sucks about the apartment thing though. Iif it was me, I'd think the girl from the collection agency was out to get me (ok, a little too many conspiracy theories... :p)

different sexy ladyfriend just visited for four or so days.

it's almost unbearable living in such a remote, out-of-the-way locale, but it's made somewhat less so when people trek your way to spend some time with you...

anyway, she's on her way up to Canada via Reno, Eugene, Portland, Seattle--then back down along the spine of California towards Mexico in her funky li'l VW van....

it just barely turned September, & I've already got the heater going--it's still summer, right?
but there's been lot's of rain & nice little splashes of lightning all over the place. from my current post at the prison I've been able to watch a nice lightshow flashbulbing the desert.
also, I got slashed in the face last week.

(such are the vagaries of language--the close...

... and regarding your comment.. by the way, the quality I praise most in Char's translation is one that belongs as well to ratsonjulia's Mechanical Little Helper's: it's definitely not everybody's french! It has Italian syntax, Italian rythmics, and phrases go a pace that would be natural to old Adso von Melk's: the pace somebody who's got all the time from here to eternity uses to walk ...
