Hey guys! I'm a writer and have had around six short stories either published in anthologies or broadcast on the radio, and am currently working on my own short story collection!! It's exciting to imagine having a full volume of my stuff out there available to be read. I also write poetry, here is one of my latest offerings! Do you guys write at all? If so go ahead and share!

As for me, I wrote and self-published an SFF novel ten years ago — Gladiator Girl. The handful of people who have read it, including people I don’t know, seem to like it. It is and isn't what you would expect from the title. It takes place twenty years after a process had been discovered that allows people to recover from devastating injures, including dismemberment. There are some catches: it is only available to women, and only until around the age of 25 (when humans stop growing). This has led to changes in society. For example, young women are seen as best suited for the most dangerous occupations (not that they weren’t suited before, now it no longer takes convincing); the leads in Romeo and Juliet can actually die, provided they are both played by women; there is a team sport that involves swords (and lots of dismemberment). Because this society remains haunted by an apocalyptic event it recovered from centuries ago the sport’s fans have come to see it as a ritual cautioning against taking the earth, in its goddess representation, for granted. They still cheer, of course. Given all that, the story is about a couple of life-changing weeks for Lucy Star (a name she chose for herself when she was 10), an up-and-coming guardian (the key, pivotal position on a team). My one sentence description is, An alternate reality, action-sports love story. So, there you go.

Real advice... when pitching something, or attempting to sell one on something you’ve written, start with the one sentence description.
