The next semester has begun!

Science Fiction Literature, Cold War History, The World today, and Early British Literature!

These books will cost too much! Ah, me...

I'm not looking forward to this semester's activities with NYPIRG. I'm really bad with it, but then again...

Think of it this way, the NY Public Interest Research Group is really at a loss for manpower, and is at an even bigger loss for interest... our group is often recognized as having been started by the hated Ralph Nader. If you're a Democrat, you hate him and blame him for the elections where he was a spoiler, if you're a Republican, you hate him for being opposed to your beliefs, but at least he screws up the democratic ticket- either way, you don't want to know what the hell an organization that he started thinks.

Worse still... every time we have the big meeting, some speaker always says that it's easy to get discouraged, but you learn to work past that... how the hell do that? I'm always wondering what the hell I can do... I'm tired and I work, and I have school, and I'm always strapped for time. NYPIRG is a hobby for me, a very frustrating hobby. Big business, indifferent government and an apathetic populace make for a troubling combination. Sure people are more concerned these days, but it doesn't change that they're too trusting- they expect the DNC to turn the country into a magical fairy-land... this simply isn't true. We have to make our politcians listen by forming organizations outside of their sphere of influence. Political parties don't have to listen to members that don't give money, after all.

I'm concerned with how to help people rather than helping politicians to help people.

But the fight against confusion and apathy starts with me. I'll have to go back to the NYPIRG office on tuesday.
