slavewire mentioned Tetsuo to me a few weeks ago and we finally got around to watching it together. He suggested that i would like it, not only for the industrial soundtrack and feel, but also for the pure originality of it.

It runs for 67 minutes. and it is non-stop action. this is not hollywood action where arnie saves the day by blowing up 10 cars and a hummer before jumping off a bridge to get aboard the recently airborne helicopter on which is his kidnapped daughter. no. this is like modern techno-industri meets grotesque continual transmogrification dosed with ergot-poisoned dance.

it's absolutely beautiful. in the way its dirty feel gets under your skin, in the way you find yourself almost moving to the beat with the actors, almost feeling the motion of transformation within yourself.

the plot is difficult to explain at best. i won't go in to it. but so many themes run through this film, it stimulates the mind immensely. i couldn't stop thinking, couldn't stop calculating. and i don't mean calculating in the sense of piecing clues together to discover which character 'did it'. no, i mean calculating in the way you do when you read great literature and seek within its pages the authors intent, the message, the universal and transcendent.

does the movie make any conclusions about these themes? perhaps and perhaps not. whether it intends to or not is hardly a concern of mine. my mind is a-buzz with all those themes like man vs machine, man vs. (wo)man, power, sexual deviance, the industrial revolution, 'humanity', revenge, organic vs synthetic, synthesis...

my mind can go on and on about it. i have yet to clarify my own thoughts...

but i can say that i have never reached the credits of a movie with the words 'that is the best film i have ever seen' on my tongue until today.

I was about to say that film sounds Japanese from your description.... sounds like SomeOneUK's sort of film.

Thanks for the compliments on the cow.

I try not to think about things too much most of the time. Otherwise I tear myself up with worry. But thanks for the kind words!

Hey hey

Nice to see you the other day - sorry I had to run not to miss the fast train...!

I was wondering: would you like to be the new group owner for "The Loss of Innocence"? If yes, let me know & I'll contact the admin peeps who change that. I would like this group to live even if I'm not around, as I think it could help people, maybe smile

Anyway, see you on the 12th if you're around

kiss
