Well I had a surprisingly good Christmas. My mom had a ton of goodies for us to eat--7 kinds of cheesecakes, fudge, cookies, chocolate marshmallow thingies, cheese spread, meatballs, mac and cheese (homemade), and she'd bought me a couple of those pre-made TGI Fridays mudslides, since she knew I don't care for the Miller Lite and Smirnoff Ice she buys regularly.
I got great gifts:
-pink Garfield pjs
-leopard print pajama pants
-Care Bear lounge pants
-Garfield lounge pants
-Garfield watch
-a bracelet
-nail polish
-Care Bear clock from my brothers girlfriend
-leather gloves from my brother
-chocolates
-cute socks (4)
-cute lace underwear (3)
-Garfield movie
-big flashlight
-Foreman grill to Dustin and I
-waffle maker to Dustin and I (and waffle mix and syrup)
-cookie sheets
-pasta making set to Dustin and I
-grey fleece hoodie
-fleece blanket with duckies on it from my friend Megan
-bath and body works gift card
-tattoo and piercing gift certificate from my friend Joel
-glow in the dark care bear (wish bear)
-scratch off lotto tickets (i won $2)
-bath and body works gift set in cucumber melon from dustin's aunt
and from Dustin:
-beautiful diamond and mystic topaz ring
-red lingerie set
-Degrassi DVD set (big surprise, I didn't know the made them)
-Empire Records DVD
-mini care bear (birthday bear)
-andes cherry and mint candies
-Mach 3 razor
-dark chocolate toblerone orange
Plus we had dinner at Bennigans tonight after we both got home from our families and exchanged gifts with each other.
I wanted to buy Dustin more stuff but I ran out of time. Maybe I can surprise him with a few more things this week.
Lucy hated the drive to my parents house but seemed to have fun once we got there. Everyone loves her. She slept with me the past 2 nights, I think because she was afraid of the house at night. She was fairly calm today on the way home, once we got a few miles into the trip. She gave the occasional meow, but by the time we got home, she was nearly asleep in her carrier. She slept all afternoon and evening--too much excitement this weekend. I expect her to wake up and start being her usual hyper night time self soon.
We went to grandma's house on Christmas day which is slightly depressing. We no longer buy gifts amongst each other and no one seems to put much effort into the food--its usually store bought pies and such. Grandma's been kind of sick but there isn't much that can be done--she's old and wearing out. My relatives on that side of the family are a bit, how shall I say, white trash hicks. I simply can't relate and they pretty much ignore me at this point. My brother and I end up talking to each other since no one else seems to understand us. For some reason, my grandma started trying to send home stuff that had belonged to my grandpa with us all. My mom got a stuffed bear that had been given to him when he was in the hospital for heart surgery, which she seemed quite happy about. She and my grandpa were really close and its still hard for her to visit their house and him to not be there. Its only been a little over a year since he died.
My parents were both much more happy and christmas spirity than usual, which was nice. Everyone seemed to like what i gave them. My mom showed the homemade calender I gave her with pics of family and such to everyone she came in contact with. So I guess she liked it. And she is being extremely supportive of my grad school plans, which is surprising but pleasing. She really wants me to go now that she's talked to me about it and knows that I'll be serious about it and all that. I sort of blew off a couple of years of undergrad because I didn't know what i wanted to do and I had crappy classes that I didn't want to go to. But I got serious in the last couple of years and got good grades and she knows I was to get my masters degree and become a school counselor, so she's supporting me--at least for the time being. I'm sure it doesn't hurt that Lansing is only about an hour from my parents house, so I won't be too far away. Now I just have get accepted and get the financial stuff in order......
My car started giving me problems on the way home. I have an anitfreeze leak--a pretty bad one. So I am currently driving my mom's leather interiored, automatic everything, 2001 Impala. I could get used to that.......
Whew--I'm tired. I wish I had tomorrow off too to recover from it all but alas, its back to work. At least Tuesday is my regular day off--and I have new years eve off. No plans as of yet......we'll have to work on that.
